DreadTober 2020 Participants Gallery

The forge fires of DreadTober 2020 have been well and truly quenched! With Blogger acquiring a glitch that prevented new pages from being published, I have been sitting on this post for a while. Tonight, though, I have finally been able to make the DreadTober 2020 Participants page visible to everyone; our efforts have been safely immortalised!

I have posted as many final shots there as I thought was appropriate, but if for some reason I have missed something, let me know in the comments. Dave Weston even managed to finish his Tyrannofex (only a couple of weeks late; shhhhhhh!!), which is a fitting capstone to the year, I think.

That's it from me for 2020 as well. It has been a pleasure being your curator of projects this year; the talent on display in this community and the camaraderie has been inspiring. It is impossible to know what next year will bring, but I hope to see you all again, re-igniting the forges in 2021.

Kindest regards,

Marc

DreadTober 2020 Week 4: Day of the Dread

Hi folks,

The day has finally come for us to look back on all that we have achieved during DreadTober 2020! For some people it has been a very productive month of building, and painting, stompy robots. Others have only just completed their projects in the nick of time. Some are still working on their pledges in extra time, chasing that satisfaction of finishing what they started. Champions all.

Name: Dave

Project: Tyranid Tyrannofex (plus weapon options)

Blog: 40kaddict.uk

Dave came oh-so-close to finishing his Tyrannofex, but decided it was better not to rush the finish. keep an eye out for his work when I do the fare-well post for the year and complete the 2020 participants gallery; I think it will be finished. In the mean time, check out his blog for eye-popping fex goodness.

Name: Dave

Project: Death Guard Leviathan (Redemptor conversion)

Blog: dadhammer40k.blogspot.com and@borsil1981 on Instagram

Dave has finished some Blight-Haulers as a bonus project, and his Death Guard Leviathan is deliciously gribbly. I love this little yellow guy:

Name: DaveM

Project: 1st Legion (Dark Angels) Leviathan Dreadnought

Blog: http://262krieg.blogspot.com/

I cannot tell you how much I love this Dreadnought! I think I may have to get one for DreadTober next year... Amazing work DaveM, you have brought glory to the 1st Legion. Check out DaveM's blog to get a closer look at all the detail.

NAME: Neverness

PROJECT: Black Legion Hellbrute.

BLOG: https://nevernesshobby.blogspot.com

This Black Legion Hellbrute by Neverness is brutally close to completion. It is another project I am hoping will get finished over the next couple of days so that I can add it to the 2020 gallery. I truly respect the decision not to rush though; it is the reason my previous project took two DreadTobers to complete! Strong play, as our brother Rory would say.

Name: Rory

Project: Contemptor-Galatus (Custodes of the Damned)

Blog: https://steppingbetweengames.com/ and @macantsagart on Twitter

Speak of the devil! Rory's Contemptor-Galatus "Lost Hope" is spooky as heck; I love it. A fitting project to finish on Halloween.

Name: Ed

Project: Legio Fureans Warbringer Nemesis Titan

Blog: https://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/

Last week Ed came screaming in low over the horizon with his afterburners glowing and sent this glorious Titan sailing in through the window. Terrific freehand work really sets this project apart and brings back happy memories of Epic 40K in the 90's!

Name: Siph

Project: Space Marine

Leviathan Blog: https://weemen.blogspot.com/

Here is another look at Siph's chonky Leviathan, alongside his other 4 years of DreadTober triumph. an incredible effort from a talented member of our 40K community.

Name: Doc

Projects: Leviathan Dread and Reaver Titan for Titanicus

Blog: www.code40k.blogspot.com

Here is another look at Doc's completes Leviathan Dreadnought. As I have mentioned previously, the subtle weathering and cold tones make this a tremendously grim/dark addition to the DreadTober pantheon. In fact, I would like to officially coin the term grim/dark/cold, and use it here first.

Name: jabberjabber

Project: Contemptor Mortis for Shattered Legions (Salamanders)

Blog: http://warpstoneflux.blogspot.com

Grim/Dark/Hot?! YES, I think I will coin that term too. Here is jabberjabber's twin-multimelta toting Contemptor, with the rest of the Salamanders survivors.

Name: Joe

Project: Trio of Talos (tres bien!)

Blog: joesavestheday.com

Joe is currently working on a Wraightknight bonus project, which will hopefully be finished soon. I can't post enough photos of Joe's murder-creations to do them justice, so I will simply suggest that you check  out his blog and thank goodness these things aren't flying round at night...

Name: David

Project: 2nd Edition Imperial Fists Dreadnought

Instagram: @3dfoundry

Last week I extolled the virtues of David's 2nd Edition Imperial Fists Dreadnought. Well, here is his bonus project. Far-out brussel sprout.

Look. I'm not saying that this project triggers my arachnophobia. But my urge to purge with fire is intensifying. The finish on the paint job is inspiring; bravo Greggles, you've nailed it.

Name: Cylde

Project: Eldar Wraithlords

Blog: https://mastodontica.blogspot.com/ and @cyldear on Instagram

Name: Azazel

Project: Celestial Lions Dreadnought

Blog: Azazel's Bitz Box

I subscribe to Azazel's blog and saw this beauty pop up on my feed during the week. It is such a clean paint job, with clever discolouration on assault cannon barrel and neat free-hand motifs to pay homage to the African inspiration. What a beautiful contribution!

Name: Floyd Lawton

Project: Red Corsairs Hellbrute

Blog: https://1stlegionchronicles.blogspot.com/

Floyd has worked hard to beat the deadline and produced this brutal looking Hellbrute. Great effort Floyd, it was well worth it!

Name: TheFallen Star

TheFallen Star is also a mate from the MeWe 40K group. He completed this Ultramarines Redemptor using Citadel Contrast paints. I think it is a really neat finish and the base suits t perfectly. Bravo!

Name: M4cr0Dutch

Project: Imperial Knight Preceptor "Achilles" Aeternum

Blog: http://oldschoolg4m1ng.blogspot.com/ and @m4cr0dutch everywhere else

I finished the last touches on my Imperial Knight just after the deadline, having spent the weekend at the beach with my family. I am pretty happy with how it turned out; the snake warming itself under the fusion reactor sparks so much joy in me 😂.

Congratulations to all of the participants of DreadTober 2020! What you have been able to produce in one short month is incredible, highlighting the breadth of talent we have in this community. It has been wonderful to see so much diversity in the projects as well.

To celebrate completing the challenge, I have made a little gift for you. It isn't... great... but it comes from the heart 😉 If you would like to display this badge on your blog to identify as a participant this year, it is all yours. The ork dreadnought head is from the Deffdread I painted with my son early in the challenge; I figured it was a suitable trophy.

On the weekend I will be writing the final farewell post for 2020. If I have missed you completely, or you managed to finish that elusive final detail after the deadline, just let me know in the comments and I will make sure your project makes it into the 2020 participants gallery. It would be great to share with us which project was your favourite as well!

October DreadLine Approaches!!

Hi folks,

The October 31st deadline for our DreadTober projects is upon us! Over the next couple of days I will be looking through all of the blogs and social media accounts to find photos for a Week 4 round-up. If you are adding the final touches to your project, make sure you take a photo so that we can share it here with all of the other participants.

Also,  I will take another quick look around at the end of this week to catch any late entries, for a final end of DreadTober 2020 post. If you don't think you can strictly make the deadline today, but can get the job done by Friday night, I will make sure that your finished project makes the 2020 participant's gallery.

My own DreadTober project has gone right down to the wire; last minute decals make for a great (if stressful) finishing touch. I'll leave you with a mid-week WIP of my Imperial Knight:

Good luck everyone!!

Agis posted a terrific Achillus Dreadnought last week, which I will feature again in the final round-up. This model is one of six in the collection, which I will also try to share with everyone when they get based.

Name: M4cr0Dutch

Project: Imperial Knight Preceptor "Achilles" Aeternum

Blog: http://oldschoolg4m1ng.blogspot.com/ and @m4cr0dutch everywhere else

This week I have been working hard on my Imperial Knight Preceptor. I have been focusing on the external armour panels and fiddly bits, including some free-had on the shoulder armour. All of my Knights have some kind of creature displayed on their shoulder; for this knight I have painted a stylised lion. The inspiration came from this quote from Homer's The Illiad:

Achilles glared at him and answered, "Fool, prate not to me about covenants. There can be no covenants between men and lions..."

Thanks to everyone who has finished their projects already (congratulations!), or those who have been posting progress during the week. As we make our final run towards the end of the month, I will be working hard to include as many people as possible. If I have accidentally missed you, or there is something in particular you would like to bring to my attention, please leave a comment or catch up with me on social media. Good luck everyone!!
