DreadTober 2021 Week 1: The Thin Dread Line

Hi folks,

The first week of the challenge is behind us and it is time to check in on our participants to see how they faired. The first week is usually a flurry of activity and glued fingers, though it is not unusual for some competitors to get stuck into some painting as well. 

I have had a particularly busy week, so only managed to get the major sub assemblies completed with my project. If for some reason I have missed your progress shots, or you were running a bit late, let me know in the comments and I will try add your contribution this week.

D has spent a it of time away from 40K the past couple of years. He built quite a reputation back in the Google+ days converting and painting in a distinctly Blanchitsu style. Recently, he has been working on a terrifically gothic terminator-based army using his signature style. The scale of this Macro Terminator is impressive, to say the least!

I have constructed the major sub-assemblies on my warglaive, including most of the conversion pieces I ordered from Taro Modelmaker. I'm loving the slender look of that power blade, as well as the more knightly looking head.

Phew! That's it for the first week. There are a couple of people who entered the challenge, but did not post any progress, so I will try to catch up with them during the week to see how they are going. 

The next deadline for progress shots is 11.59 pm on Friday, which will give me time on Saturday to piece together the Week 2 post. Good luck everyone!

Dreadtober 2021 Has Begun!!!

It is time to get started on those Dreadnought projects! I wish you all the best this week as you start constructing and priming your machines. 

The deadline for progress photos, posted on your nominated social media account/blog, is Friday at 11.59 pm (wherever you are in the world). That will give me time to put a progress post out next weekend. If you haven't joined the challenge yet, it is not too late. Please let me know your name*, and Instagram/Twitter/MeWe account or blog address in the comments below.

This year I am working on an Armiger Warglaive, using some custom parts from Taro Modelmaker. This little fella is going to be the final** model in my Imperial Knights army: The Walls of Ithaka. Loyal allies of my Iron Snakes, the concept for this army came from an old Spartan quote. When asked why his city lacked walls, a Spartan king once pointed to his soldiers and said "Here are Sparta's walls". The Walls of Ithaka are a small Imperial Knight House, that works closely with the Iron Snakes to defend the Reef Stars. This Armiger will be named "Patroclus" Audax, to compliment the Knight Preceptor I painted for DreadTober last year: "Achilles" Aeternum.

DreadTober 2021 is About to Start!

 

By name and by deeds, they FEAR NOTHING! With October only a week away, it is time to start planning your Dreadnought themed project for DreadTober. 

In previous years, DreadTober has been a fun community event that brings people together from all around the world to share in the hobby we all love. Last year we followed the progress of 20 participants, working on a wide variety of inspiring projects, as they strived hard to beat the deadline. Some were attempting the challenge for the first time, others were veterans with multiple Dreadtobers under their belts. Who will answer the call in 2021?

Collectors of every faction are welcome to participate; the only guideline is that your model should fit on a 60 mm base (or larger!).

If you would like to be involved, please post your name, project and site/blog address in the comments. If you post primarily on other social media sites, feel free to provide a link so that people can find you and follow your progress. Additionally, you can use the hashtag #dreadtober.

DreadTober 2020 Participants Gallery

 

The forge fires of DreadTober 2020 have been well and truly quenched! With Blogger acquiring a glitch that prevented new pages from being published, I have been sitting on this post for a while. Tonight, though, I have finally been able to make the DreadTober 2020 Participants page visible to everyone; our efforts have been safely immortalised! 

I have posted as many final shots there as I thought was appropriate, but if for some reason I have missed something, let me know in the comments. Dave Weston even managed to finish his Tyrannofex (only a couple of weeks late; shhhhhhh!!), which is a fitting capstone to the year, I think.

That's it from me for 2020 as well. It has been a pleasure being your curator of projects this year; the talent on display in this community and the camaraderie has been inspiring. It is impossible to know what next year will bring, but I hope to see you all again, re-igniting the forges in 2021.

DreadTober 2020 Week 4: Day of the Dread

The day has finally come for us to look back on all that we have achieved during DreadTober 2020! For some people it has been a very productive month of building, and painting, stompy robots. Others have only just completed their projects in the nick of time. Some are still working on their pledges in extra time, chasing that satisfaction of finishing what they started. Champions all.

I finished the last touches on my Imperial Knight just after the deadline, having spent the weekend at the beach with my family. I am pretty happy with how it turned out; the snake warming itself under the fusion reactor sparks so much joy in me 😂.

Congratulations to all of the participants of DreadTober 2020! What you have been able to produce in one short month is incredible, highlighting the breadth of talent we have in this community. It has been wonderful to see so much diversity in the projects as well. 

To celebrate completing the challenge, I have made a little gift for you. It isn't... great... but it comes from the heart 😉 If you would like to display this badge on your blog to identify as a participant this year, it is all yours. The ork dreadnought head is from the Deffdread I painted with my son early in the challenge; I figured it was a suitable trophy.
